About
Modern Current Review follows the countryside as a place of work, settlement and change. We make room for its long histories and seasonal habits, while paying attention to present-day choices that shape land, routes, water and rural livelihoods.
What we cover
Our subjects include land use, country work, water, rural connections and the life of settlements. We are interested in how a place functions as well as how it looks: the fields and lanes, but also the routines, shared resources and decisions that give them meaning.
Who it is for
The publication is for curious readers, whether they live in the countryside, have ties to it or simply want to understand it more clearly. No specialist vocabulary is required; unfamiliar terms should be explained where they matter.
A measured view
Rural places are varied, and a change that suits one landscape may not suit another. We aim to distinguish general explanation from local circumstance, avoid treating the countryside as a single story, and leave room for uncertainty where the subject calls for it.
